Q Departments of correction refer to prison gangs as security threat groups. Why do you think they don't just refer to them as gangs, and does it make a difference?
Gangs of prison inmates are not considered as any other gangs and they have a different term to classify them. A Security Threat Group is a term that has been distinguished for the gangs consisting of prison inmates. They are being considered as more threatening than the other type of gangs. Knox (2005) argued that there are different definitions for the prison gangs among different states. These prison gangs have one criteria that they must be consisting of three or more people and they are disruptive in nature that cause violence and other behaviors such as going against the disciplinary rules
